Why Miami gutters clog faster than most
It isn't just fall leaves here. South Florida drops debris into your gutters all year:
Live oaks shed leaves and acorns continuously, and the small leaves are exactly the size that packs into a gutter
Black olive trees drop fine leaves and berries that stain and form sludge
Royal and coconut palms send down fronds, seed pods and flower strings
Ficus drops small leaves and fruit constantly
Mango, avocado and sea grape in backyards across the county
Roof grit from shingles, and sand from coastal wind
Add the volume of our summer storms and a clogged gutter stops working entirely. Water overflows at the worst possible moment, straight down your walls and into your foundation.
Do gutter guards actually work?
Straight answer: good ones dramatically reduce cleaning, but no guard makes a gutter maintenance-free. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling.
With quality micro-mesh properly installed, most homes go from cleaning 2–3 times a year to a quick check once a year. Fine dust and pollen can still build up on top of the mesh, and a heavy frond drop still needs sweeping off. What you avoid is the clog inside the gutter, which is what causes the overflow and the damage.
The gutter guard we install: Aqua Armor stainless micro-mesh
After installing gutter protection across South Florida for years, we standardized on one system: Aqua Armor stainless steel micro-mesh, made by GPI Gutter Products.
Here's why it suits this climate:
Stainless steel mesh, not plastic or nylon. Plastic mesh goes brittle in our sun and sags in the heat. Stainless resists corrosion, which matters near the coast where salt air destroys cheaper materials in a few seasons.
The mesh is bonded to the aluminum body. A patented hemming process locks the micro-mesh into the frame, so it can't separate, lift at the edges or peel away over time. Separation at the edge is the most common failure we see with budget guards.
It handles heavy rain. The manufacturer rates the system to handle up to 60 gallons of water per minute. That matters during a South Florida downpour, when a cheap guard sheds water straight over the front of the gutter instead of through it.
The openings are small enough for Miami debris. It blocks oak leaves, palm seed strings, twigs, shingle grit and nesting material, which are exactly what fills gutters here.
Two profiles and two colors. Fascia and flatback profiles, in mill finish or black, so it fits your gutter setup and stays discreet from the ground.
The manufacturer backs it with a 50-year clog-free warranty when properly installed. We'll go over the warranty terms with you before the job.
Gutter guards with new gutters
If you're replacing your gutters anyway, adding guards at the same time costs less than doing it in two visits, and we can size the gutters and the guard system together. Ask about it when we come out to measure.

Frequently asked questions
Do gutter guards work with palm trees?
Yes, though palms are the hardest case. Fronds and seed strings sit on top of the guard rather than washing off, so you'll still want to clear them occasionally. What matters is that they stay out of the gutter.
Will gutter guards work on a barrel tile roof?
Yes, when they're installed correctly. Guards must never be forced under the tile. We install so the tile stays undisturbed.
Do guards stop water in heavy rain?
Quality micro-mesh is designed to handle heavy rainfall. Poor-quality mesh or a clogged surface can cause water to run over. Proper gutter sizing matters here too.
Can you put guards on my existing gutters?
Usually yes, if the gutters are in good shape and correctly pitched. We'll inspect first and tell you honestly.
How much do gutter guards cost?
It depends on the length of your roofline, the guard type and your roof. We measure on site and give you a written price at no cost.
Do I still need to clean my gutters?
Far less often. Plan on a yearly check rather than several cleanings a season.
How long do they last?
Quality aluminum and stainless micro-mesh systems last many years in our climate. Foam and brush inserts do not, which is why we don't install them.
What brand of gutter guards do you install?
We install Aqua Armor stainless steel micro-mesh by GPI Gutter Products. It's built for heavy rain and coastal air, and the mesh is bonded to the aluminum frame so it won't separate over time.
How does Aqua Armor compare to the brands I see advertised on TV?
The nationally advertised systems work, but you're also paying for their advertising. Aqua Armor is a professional-grade stainless micro-mesh system installed by local crews, and we price it fairly because we're not funding a national ad campaign.
